Ward W. Vuillemot

Photography, sans a minor introduction by my father back in the day of film with his Canon A1, is mostly a recent phenomenon. I have discovered the use of a lens as a means to explore my environ, especially in the past year. A reserved introvert, my camera allows me to explore the external world. I am naturally inclined to focus on still photographs of landscapes and close-ups of nature. It is my way of both communing with and capturing the essence of these "things" — and yet how does one capture one perspective's within context to any given moment through a rather limited, two-dimensional projection? Nevertheless, photographs are strong elixir and concoction for photographer and viewer alike, acting as both a mnemonic key for photographer and doorway for viewers to a time and place far removed from the present now. While I use photography to explore color, I am primarily interested in composition. My introduction to composition stretches back to childhood where my sister greatly influenced my passion for self-expression through art. Incidentally, it is her own love of pencil which greatly impacted my choice of favorite mediums. That said, I have never had a strong desire to express my work in color and thus my staple mediums have remained pencil, ink (pen and brush), and to much lesser degree charcoal.
